Second album from the Swiss sextet.
Calling your band AudioLegend is a pretty bold statement, but does it live up to the expectations? Well, the jury's still out on that one...
'We Are Infinity' is the second album from the Swiss sextet, and I have no problem with it musically, as it's typical European-style Hard Rock that occasionally veers into a more Metallic direction with some abrasive guitar riffs and infrequent pounding double kick drums, as the band rip through ten tracks that are thoroughly decent, though slightly unspectacular, which also includes their cover of The Cult's 'Rise'.
However, it's the vocals that are the Achilles Heel of the band. Singer (and guitarist) Reto Grossrieder's voice isn't great in all fairness, but sort of suits the material on offer. However, his vocals are frequently punctuated by the twin female harmony vocals of Tanja Grossrieder and Sandra Ulrich, which only serves to accentuate Reto's shortcomings in that department. On the other hand, I'm not convinced that the style of the material really requires having the female vocals, and the limitations within the melodies render their harmonies somewhat bland and one-dimensional at times – in fact they can actually be quite annoying and distracting.
But there is actually potential to be had here. I really think that the female voices should be given free rein with some lead parts rather than just being relegated to simple harmonies, and woven into the vocal lines of Reto Grossrieder. That, and a little more inventiveness within the writing department, could see AudioLegend truly live up to their name.
