Not exactly an easy listen, yet nevertheless often a triumphant one.

This is as busy as a Moroccan market, but not quite as colourful. They apparently tangle harmonic timbres; that's true. There's also an 80s synth-led Prog sound, reminiscent of those doyens of the genre, Twelfth Night, in fact Sotiris Pomonis' solo on opener 'Humanize' has a beautiful lilting tone akin to Andy Revell in his pomp. In fact the track has a lot to recommend it, from plaintive piano and vox to a nice calm chorus and some martial drumming, but they change it up with 'Before You (Be For You)' providing the kind of African rhythms and chants that Indie bands use to tickle the NME, quickly getting past that for bleeping synths and some rather mournful strings.

'Beautiful As A Sin' has syncopated beats, bubbly bass and a tremulous vocal which wouldn't have been out of place in The Associates, and 'Ordinary Orbit' a piece of whispering whimsy shouldn't surprise us. This band take a Prog belief at its most basic and exciting; they make progress in the way they want, the only boundary the barriers of the listener.

They may want some close choral work ('Sub-Care'), they may fancy some Pastorius bass bashing ('D.E.O.X.'), they may even hanker after a groove and not much else ('D-Day' although the bossy bass and loose guitar are lovely) but they will hardly lose you, always locking into a sound touched by the 80s and modern Indie sensibilities alike - take what you want from it, this is the challenge, to square that circle.

And so it's not exactly an easy listen, yet nevertheless often a triumphant one. A sound of their own, not intricate for its own sake, but really well played and the sound of a band offering what they make, what they have come to. Impressive stuff. But then, with Twelfth Night you have a lot to live up to.
