Still one of the most entertaining pensioners you'll ever get to see.

Ted Nugent, The Nuge, The Motor City Madman, Uncle Ted... or whatever you want to call him is an enigma in today's rock and roll world. He says and does what he wants and makes no apologies about it. He has forty and more years of rock 'n' roll experience under his belt as a recording artist, first with the Amboy Dukes whose debut album came out in 1967, then as a solo artist, then finally as a member of the band Damn Yankees and all points in between. During this time Nugent has sold well in excess 50 million albums, played over 6,400 live concerts and still continues to defy trends by just being who he is.

This all leads us nicely to 'Ultralive Ballisticrock', a two CD/DVD (also Blu-ray) package of Ted Nugent at his fiery best. Recorded in front of a rabid Pennsylvania crowd in 2011, this show was captured for posterity using seven cameras and mixed in glorious 5.1 Stereo. What a show this was, with Uncle Ted playing, dancing, singing and cracking jokes like a giggling teenager, rather than the sixty-five year old rock veteran that he is. Also when you can (as in his own words) back yourself with one of the tightest bands in the world, you know your going to be treated to an unrivalled aural pleasure. Mick Brown of Dokken, Greg Smith of Rainbow and for me the only man that has over the years really been the one who could sing Nugent's songs properly, Derek St Holmes, all join with the Nuge to rock and party for a two hour plus show.

Furthermore you know that after you've finished watching and listening to a set of songs that include, 'Stranglehold', 'Cat Scratch Fever', 'Need You Bad', 'Stormtroopin'', 'Motor City Madhouse', 'Great White Buffalo', 'Free For All', 'Wango Tango' and many more, that you've been well and truly Nugentised. All of the songs are played with a passion, vigour and gusto few other acts can or have achieved over the years, with Ted (and as he calls them) The Nigerian Rebels playing for what seems like the sheer joy of the music. You will not find yourself bored or distracted during the show. That a band with no stage gimmicks can do this in this day and age is astounding. They just let the music do the talking.

This for me is what Ted Nugent is about: all-out attack in a live setting. Few can touch the man when he's up there on stage with a Gibson Birdland strapped around his shoulders and even if you don't agree with his politics or views, you can't deny that he's still one of the most entertaining pensioners you'll ever get to see.
