A band that could and should go places.

Hailing from the land of a thousand lakes (figuratively speaking), Dreamtale have chosen to re-release their fifth album on Ice Warrior records who no doubt have better distribution avenues than the band themselves who originally self-released it on their own Secret Door records. Epsilon is the fifth letter in the greek alphabet so the band have neatly tied that in with this album.

With no bio or press release with this CD, it will come as no surprise then that their profile in the UK is virtually zero, which is a shame as Dreamtale are equally as good as any of their peers in the power/symphonic metal genre. On this particular album they are a classic mix of 80's era Helloween and fellow Finns Stratovarius with some slight Iron Maiden dynamics and plenty of references and influences from the ground breaking Nightwish, not so surprising when you realise that Marco Hietala actually sang on two songs of their debut album in 2002 around the time that 'Century Child' was launching Nightwish into super stardom.

Guitarist, band leader and former lead vocalist Rami Keranen is the only member of Dreamtale to have continuity with the band since their inception in 1999, although Petteri Rosenbom returned to the drumstool after playing on the first three albums and this line-up has remained intact for several years now and have since recorded a sixth album 'World Changed Forever' that was released in April and charted in Finland as did this one.

Having previously a revolving door of musicians has obviously not helped Dreamtale break out to the larger European audience, despite touring with proto supergroup Sinergy (Marco from Nightwish, Alexi from Children Of Bodom and founding members Kimberley from Dimmu Borgir and Jesper from In Flames). However, with the rapid double bass drumming, high end singing and catchy chorus of opening song 'Firestorm', the steady metronomic beat of 'Angel Of Light' which features the same melody as Helloween's 'Future World', the incessantly familiar 'Mortal Games' (borrowed from Rainbow?), the riffy guitar and keyboard/guitar solo interplay on 'Each Time I Die' and the sheer musicality and catchy chorus of favourite song 'Fly Away' they have the capability to go far with the right backing.

Mention must be made of vocalist Erkki Seppanen, who not only has the same inflections and tone of a young Michael Kiske, but is a fabulous lyricist to boot with plenty of mature and thought provoking lyrics and a strong command of the English language, even evidenced by the correct use of English grammar with the song title 'Strangers' Ode'.

A band that could and should go places.
