Benedictum back on track after the somewhat lacklustre ‘Dominion’ album.

Benedictum blasted onto the rock scene with their explosive debut ‘Uncreation’ in 2006 playing an uncompromising take no prisoners style of heavy metal, infused with lots of big harmonies. However, I’m sure that what stood out the most for all of you who discovered this band was the outstanding vocal prowess of their singer Veronica Freeman, her mighty voice putting to shame many of her male counterparts and helping Benedictum to become a force in a male dominated metal world.

Fast forward to 2013 and Benedictum return with album number four, filled with some very powerful melodic metal songs that are once again rounded off with that commanding vocal snarl of Veronica Freeman, whose sheer joy at singing these songs can be heard from the moment she opens her mouth..

A scream starts things off and you hear a pane of glass shattering as it reaches its highest pitch, then we’re off at breakneck speed into the fast paced ‘Fractured’, where you can imagine the band heads down and with determined looks on their faces really going for it as the song powers along. This frantic pace is continued with ‘Obey’, ‘Fighting For My Life’ and ‘Scream’, songs that while all full-on in your face metal tracks still have a magnificent melodic undercurrent running through them. There are three tracks that I would especially like to tell you about. Firstly, ‘Crossing Over’, a mid-paced melodic rocker with a killer riff and a muscular guitar solo which is just wonderful; secondly the awesome duet featuring Tony Martin entitled ‘Cry’ where the voices of Miss Freeman and Mr Martin complement each other amazingly well. Lastly there is ‘Thornz’ which is another duet that sees Veronica Freeman battling it out with fellow chanteuse Nina Osegueda (A Sound Of Thorns) and it is so good a performance from both ladies, that I’m not sure who really wins.

‘Obey’ sees Benedictum back on track after the somewhat lacklustre ‘Dominion’ album, ready to once again take on the metal world and with an album as strong as this who is going to stop them?
