The Dogs D'Amour - Borderline, London (UK) - 22nd February 2013

When I first heard the original Dogs 'D'Amour line up would reform I thought it was a hoax so just ignored it, but suddenly the rumours were reality! Together again to raise money for former member Paul Hornby, now suffering from cancer, they show it's not just for their music but also their great souls, which is why The Dogs D'Amour are my favourite band.

Fans from around the world are at a packed Borderline, displaying a manic enthusiasm as they see the guys appearing together on stage for the first time in twenty-two years, with the first notes of the classic 'Last Bandit'. From that moment Tyla, with his good old friend the Gretsch, Jo Dog – with the classic red guitar painted with 'JO ROCKA' on it – Steve on bass and Bam madly hitting the drums, deliver a host of classics like 'Fireworks Girl' and 'Kid From Kensington'. The band proved how the classic hits should sound, even after all these years and so many miles between them. And they are totally in shape!

There was also some room for the new songs they have released for the occasion, on an EP called 'Cyber Recordings 2013', such as 'Flame Boy' and 'Living On', although one of the highlights of the gig was to see Tyla and Steve singing a duet on 'Billy Two Rivers'. Their whole catalogue was covered, including 'Cardboard Town', the audience participating in 'Victims Of Success', 'Errol Flynn', 'Bullet Proof Poet' and 'Drunk Like Me', amongst others. The albums 'More Unchartered Heights Of Disgrace' and 'Happy Ever After' even get a look in with 'What You Do' and 'Get By' respectively, and even though they were recorded with a different line-up, both sounded totally rounded and fit perfectly.

To end with, we got 'I Don't Want You To Go', because yeah, we didn't want them to go! A perfect finish to a perfect gig that lasted almost two hours but went by so fast! 22 years, or a whole life-time in my case, waiting to see the classic line-up has been way too long – but thankfully I also got to see them the following two nights as well. Simply awesome!
