Michael Schenker - Rock City, Nottingham (UK) - 20th April 2013

If you don't like reading complete reviews, I could do this one in three words: see the end! If you do, read on... It had been a few years since I had seen Michael Schenker, live on stage in a pub in Mansfield. That night proved to me that Schenker was back in the game and worth seeing again.

So, forward a few years to the present day, and I was eager to see if he was as good as last time. I needn't have worried. The banner on stage said 'Temple Of Rock and Lovedrive Reunion Tour', due to two ex members of The Scorpions accompanying him on this jaunt, namely drummer Herman Rarebell and bassist Francis Buchholz. Starting with Scorpions numbers 'Lovedrive' and 'Another Piece Of Meat', it was good to see that Michael was happy to celebrate his past, and as the set wore on we got sections from all of his past accomplishments. With six songs from the Scorpions, seven from his own catalogue and a further seven from UFO, everybody was catered for irrespective of which part of Schenker's career one preferred.

The reception they got was reflected back as every member was obviously enjoying themselves, and when Doogie White started to sing a part of 'Lights Out' too early, before Schenker had finished his solo, he put up his hands, said sorry and everybody laughed. They left the stage at 21:08, coming back on after the crowd had chanted "Schenker Schenker" came back, did another 3 songs in half an hour before leaving again. Once more the chanting started up and they re-appeared, doing two songs, the second one being 'Doctor Doctor,' which sort of told us that was it, leaving the stage for the last time at 21:43 to enable the venue to be readied for the usual late night Saturday mayhem!

So, for an hour and three quarters, we had some real classic rock and some excellent guitar playing which, if you get chance, you should really go out and check the next time they play.

Absolutely f*****g brilliant....
