An atmospheric piece that will just surround you.

An assemblage of musical craftsmen and singers ensures that this, the second effort of Samuel Arkan's Epysode, is a musical journey of epic proportions and masterful performance!

With 'Fantasmagoria', Samuel needed everyone to gather in person, in the studio. None of this digitally delivered pieces: the call to the studio for each and every one! Recording the old fashioned way has brought forth a warmth and completeness that one hears all so well!

Enlisting the massive talents of Julien Spreutels on keyboards and arranging, Samuel has written a very complex and fluid orchestral work. Taking a year to compose, and five months to record, 'Fantasmagoria' is an atmospheric piece that will just surround you! Get set to be immersed in an ocean's depth of sound and splendour! Bringing in musicians and vocalists such as Matt Marinelli, Mike LePond, Tom Englund, Tezzi Persson, and Ida Haukland—a progressive masterpiece has been laid out before us!

Samuel created a highly creative atmosphere, warming the studio and encouraging every player to dig deep down into their musical souls. The resulting performances are simply breath taking! As a whole, 'Fantasmagoria' is awe inspiring! Match that with soaring and exacting vocals, and we have a musical journey that is emotive, pure, and delivered with the highest order of energy, climaxing with the title track and an amazing duet between Ida and Tom.

From beautiful to intense, 'Fantasmagoria' is a multitude of musical rivers flowing in all directions, swirling around the listener and pulling you into a variety of sonic pleasures. One also must listen intently, as the story and theme is just slightly under the surface. Deep and intense musically, provocative lyrically, and a rich and breathable production. And it all works!
Of course, this is a concept piece, but one that has two distinct stories to tell! A total immersive experience, and an expansive one to boot! It is no wonder that Samuel took a year in writing this opus! And an opus it is, what with the number of instrumentalists and vocalists, this record will leave you wanting more. Every time you listen, you will hear something different, something more beautiful than you heard the last time – that is how deep and rich this record is. You will be pulled by the thinly disguised emotions as well as those that run deep within its currents.

'Fantasmagoria' is yet another Epysode into the musical heart of one Samuel Arkan and Family!

The first part of Epysode’s, serial killer psycho drama dealt with the Bauta Killer. A vicious murderer whose full story can be found on the debut Epysode album. Their second ‘Fantasmagoria’ continues this dark tragic tale, with one of the Bauta Killer’s victims soul’s possessing a young woman, who lives in the woods of a small town called Alley Spring in the State of Missouri USA. Her name is Amy and she lives in a run down shack with her brother, who she constantly beats and bullies. He tries to calm her by acceding to her psychotic demands and visits the town of Alley Spring, killing the people who live there at her request. These two damaged individuals are hunted by a young detective called Shawn and a journalist named Jordane, whose father was killed by the brother. Trying to help the siblings is a misguided Priest called Jarno, who believes he can save them and rescue their lost souls. Which all adds up to a very strong story arc, I’m sure you will agree. Written by Samuel Arkan who also plays all the guitars (except the solos), this complex story and the way this group of musicians sets about delivering it, is a pleasure (if daunting task) to listen to. So as you would expect, something as complex as this story, needs a stellar cast to help with its telling. So enter Mike LePond (Symphony X) on bass, Leo Margarit on drums and Julien Spreutels on keyboards. With special guest lead guitarist Simone Mularoni (DGM) who handles all the guitar solos. Then add to this a set of singers that includes Tom S. Englund (Evergrey), Henning Basse (Metalium), Amber Ida Haukland (Triosphere), Matt Marinelli (Borealis) and Tezzi Persson (Between The Silence), who play the various character parts and you know immediately that this isn’t your average progressive metal concept album. (I’d also advise when listening to the album that you have the CD booklet to hand, so that you can follow the story and get the most out of the music as you listen to this superb release).
As the story is so involved and intricately intertwined, it is hard to pick out just a few songs to tell you about but for a try before you buy situation, I’d give ‘The Arch’, ‘Morning Rose’, the magnificent ‘The Black Parade’ and ‘Fantasmagoria’ a listen and after you do I’m sure you’ll immediately see and hear, just what a truly wonderful album Epysode have made.
2013 has been a unusually good year for progressive rock and metal and Epysode’s ‘Fatasmagoria’ can rightfully take its place amongst the best albums released this year in the prog genre (or any other for that matter).
