Everything a Melodic Rock / AOR fan would want from an album.

You know when an album reaches you without any biography it makes it just that little bit harder to review, unless, in the case of LaValle, it's just so infectiously melodic that you don't really care because you don't need to be 'sold' the band!

The band carries the name of American lead and rhythm guitarist Eddie Lavalle and features bassist/lyricist Paul Logue of Eden's Curse/Cry Havoc alongside German drummer Ramy Ali (Freedom Call/Evidence One/Kiske-Somerville) and his best friend powerhouse frontman Carsten 'Lizard' Schulz (Domain/Evidence One). Keyboard maestro Alessandro Del Vecchio was brought on board to embellish the sound with his magic and with the desire to make an 80s record like some of their heroes Dokken, Def Leppard and the Scorpions. They've pretty much succeeded in most cases.

The production, mixing and mastering by Ty Sims (Bombay Black) in Arkansas with Paul and Eddie's input has an unmistakable stamp of quality as he's captured the sharp electric energy and separation perfectly with the harmonics fine-tuned and the drums crisp and snappy, the bass prominent (no doubting Paul's input) and the vocals clear with nice reverb. Everything a Melodic Rock/AOR fan would want from an album. The cover art work by Thomas Ewerhard, who's worked with Carsten and Ramy before for Evidence One, is striking based on record company president John Kivel's concepts and art direction and is both compelling and disturbing.

What you get is straight up-and-at-'em hard rocking numbers like 'Fading Like The Sun' with screaming guitars and harmony backing vocals, melodic rockers such as 'Scared To Love' and 'One Day At A Time' with sing-along choruses and those glorious backing vocals again. Then you also have songs like 'Smoke And Mirrors' that appear to be double tracked so it comes across like a Judas Priest twin axe attack with a very familiar sounding Priest-like melody line. 'Break Your Heart' is as you'd expect a ballad but with a heavy foundation with Schulz giving it enough gravitas to avoid the obvious sentimentality combined with a throbbing base line and hard hitting Tom Toms. Elsewhere 'Rock Your World' comes across as an amalgam of Eden's Curse dipped in a little Motley Crue and Ratt sauce, a great stomping Rock anthem – in fact I can see the MTV video now with the hot girls and plenty of hair!

It's left to the classy bluesy semi-ballad 'Wait Too Long' to close the show. Full of heavy melodic guitars, great choruses and lush harmony backing vocals, Lavalle still contain enough crunch and bite to take them above any pre-conceived ideas of fluffy AOR.
