Title

Absolutely stunning.

During a conversation between producer/songwriter Alessandro Del Vecchio and Avenue of Allies label owner Gregor Klee about some of their favorite singers who had not released any new music recently, the name of former Snakes In Paradise and Company Of Snakes front-man Stefan Berggren cropped up. An idea for a new project emerged, Del Vecchio contacted Berggren, a pool of songs were submitted by both artists, a band was formed that features guitarists Francesco Marras (Screaming Shadows) and Carmine Martone, Eden's Curse bassist Paul Logue and drummer Francesco Jovino (UDO, Edge Of Forever), and Revolution Road was born.

The style of music cleverly combines the output of both main protagonists, infusing Melodic Rock with a healthy dose of Blues, soaring melodies and choruses delivered by Stefan Berggren in his wonderfully distinctive gritty Bluesy manner, while the bulk of Alessandro Del Vecchio's keyboard flourishes are in a Hammond style, adding an excellent air of authenticity.

The song-writing credits are split 60/40 in Del Vecchio's favour (along with other occasional contributors), with in my opinion some of the prolific keyboardist's best written contributions yet, surpassing even his work on Hardline's 'Danger Zone' release – it actually made me think, what if Del Vecchio began writing with Eric Martensson and Daniel Flores? Scary. Opener 'Wings Of Hope' is the most AOR song on the album, a punchy anthem with swirling keyboard stabs, 'Losing You' is more straight-ahead Rock 'n' Roll, while 'Revolution Road' is a stunning, moody mid-tempo anthem with an oh-so catchy keyboard melody running through it. More in the classic Blues/Rock style is 'Take Your Love To Town' that brings Bad Company to mind, while the album's sole ballad is the excellent, passion drenched 'Ain't Gonna Give My Heart Away', featuring a stunning guitar solo from Alex Beyrodt (Primal Fear, Sinner, Voodoo Circle).

Of Berggren's input, 'Shooting Star' is up-tempo in a light and lively way, while 'Love's Got A Hold On Me' is similarly paced but with a harder edge, and featuring a shredding solo from Marcus Jidell (Royal Hunt, Doogie White). 'Pretending Hearts' is an addictive, lighter, summery number in a Westcoast way and includes Berggren's Snakes In Paradise colleagues Stefan Jonsson and Thomas Jakobsson on guitar, but best of all is the closing 'Balloon', a gentle acoustic intro hints at a ballad but then it erupts into a huge riff-driven rocker with a Thunder-type groove.

If only this album had been released earlier in the year I really think it would have been high up in many writers' Top 5 of 2013. Absolutely stunning.
