Yet another superb slab of molten melodrama from the pen of Alex Beyrodt.

Bring an active, nay increasingly integral part of three bands (Primal Fear, Sinner and the sublime Voodoo Circle) apparently isn't enough for guitarist Alex Beyrodt ... not by a long chalk. Obviously at a loose end and keen to fill that yawning ten minute chasm every third Sunday afternoon; the supremely talented workaholic has now seen fit to resurrect the Silent Force standard!

Unlike the classic bluesy hard rock sound of Voodoo Circle which is a relatively recent phenomenon (the debut emerged about five years ago), the Silent Force story goes back substantially further – all the way back to millennium year in actual fact when debut 'The Empire Of Future' first hit the streets. Back then the band was very much a partnership of Beyrodt and (at the time) former Royal Hunt vocalist DC Cooper; the firebrand fretboard pyrotechnics of one the perfect muse for the commanding vocal roar of the other.

Beyrodt and Cooper would ultimately go on to release four ever more sophisticated melodic metal albums under the Silent Force banner, but following the 'Walk The Earth' album in 2007, the band was put on semi-permanent hold whilst both parties sought fresh challenges. With Cooper now back in the Royal Hunt line up, the bad news is that he's not part of this resurrection; instead the 'every cloud has a silver lining' moment comes because the vacant front man position has been taken by none other than former Jaded Heart man Michael Bormann (who actually worked with Beyrodt on 'Children Of The Future', the one and only album from The Sygnet back in '98.)

A little more hard rock and slightly less metallic than the Silent Force of old, the fittingly named 'Rising From The Ashes' is pitched somewhere between The Sygnet, Sinner and Voodoo Circle (with maybe a nod or two to Rainbow and a pinch Of Gotthard) – although the style remains definitely more 80's melodic metal than classic hard rock. Beyrodt's fluid licks and punchy riffs have impressed the hell out of me for just about as long as I can remember, and it's no surprise that they're thrust front and centre here. That said, Bormann's warmly rasping vocal style suits the sound and direction of tracks like 'Turn Me Loose', 'Kiss Of Death', 'Caught In Their Wicked Game' and 'Circle Of Trust', the addition of atmosphere laden keys (thanks to the increasingly ubiquitous Alessandro Del Vecchio) ramping up the melody quotient even further.

Those put off by the oft abrasive edge of the Silent Force of old will be pleasantly surprised at the more rounded sound here, whilst longstanding fans will still find plenty to get excited about – yet another superb slab of molten melodrama from the pen of Alex Beyrodt!
