Almah, the now full time focus for former Angra front man Edu Falaschi, roars back with their follow up to 2011's 'Motion'. A concept album, 'Unfold' tells of the importance of being persistent, and seeing good in what may otherwise be perceived as bad. Picture a mix of the power metal of At Vance, the vocal harmonies of Darkwater, the brooding melodies of Dead Soul Tribe, and you have Almah.

'Unfold' opens with 'In My Sleep', a glorious track, during the verses is heard heavy guitar power chords, an underscore of synthesizers, and growls and screams coming from Falaschi. All that which made the verses so good make the choruses seem to come alive, for mixed with the instrumentation are towering vocals. Coming to an abrupt end, 'In My Sleep' is a perfect way to start this collection of power metal as it sets the tone for what is to come during the remainder of this CD's playing time. The caution to "brace yourself" is worth a mention before track 3, 'The Hostage' comes within earshot, a different type of track to be sure, as the melodies are mixed with, for a lack of better words, a rapping vocal style. Machine gun drumming intertwines between a guitar solo that then takes a back seat as a piano and vocal harmonies come into play. This track is heavy, real heavy, as almost a Black Sabbath vibe can be felt. But again, it is the amazing style and ability that Edu Falaschi has that makes the choruses raise with magnificent divine vocals. Also heard was a piano that filled in during the song's softer moments.

Listen as well to the bass guitar and piano of 'Warm Wind.' Take a moment to reflect on the hard rock band Union's track 'October Morning Wind' from their amazing 1998 debut, and you have 'Warm Wind'. This mid tempo outing had a way of making the listener want to close their eyes and be taken away on a musical journey, never caring if they ever came back. For that is exactly what music is supposed to do – make one forget about everything around them. 'Warm Wind' is truly one of this CD's highlights. In addition lose yourself in the keyboard work of 'Wings of Revolution', and the closing track 'Farewell' opens with a to-die-for piano intro.

Almah has proven themselves to be one of the great power metal bands. The mixing was excellent, each note clear, the artwork incredible, the harmonies astonishing, and the sound overall was loud when it needed to be, and soft in others. It cannot be stated enough how the musicianship heard on 'Unfold' made this listener bang his head and reach for the volume knob time and again. The highest of recommendations come after hearing this – Almah's 'Unfold.'
