'Rise' is an awesome album that should definitely come with a sleep deprivation warning.

Heavy Metal fans might want to keep the hatches battened down because another UK storm has just touched down. The purveyors of this musical pasting are Berkshire based Primitai who have just unleashed their third album 'Rise Again'. Although their sound could be described as Classic Heavy Metal its far more than that with the clearly audible historical influences sounding fresher due to some modern tweaks.

Now where do I start with this monster...well it's not a cure for insomnia that's for sure. It's just overflowing with infectious riffs and choruses that literally tear open your mind and pile in like Saturday night revellers at a kebab shop. Several nights I've been kept from sleeping by these tunes/lyrics stomping round my head. In fact I've mentioned at work that I've been kept awake by Primitai so often that they think it's either a vivacious girlfriend's nickname or a sleep disorder.

'Rise' consists of your standard ten tracks, but every one of them is a winner. The bar is set high with the rip snorting opener 'Fortune Favours The Brave' which is a fist pumping adrenaline and progression fuelled animal. There's also the groovy dual lead and chorus of 'Driven Wild', the punishing progression of 'Holy Defender', the galloping pace of 'The Huntress' and the high quality riff (and more dual lead) of the more intricate 'The Cannibal'. 'Scream When You See Us' was a recent video release and features Judas Priest guitarist Richie Faulkner. The axe work, as would be expected, is furious and the chorus is just made for singing at the top of your voice. It was however 'Pound For Pound' that was most responsible for the loss of sleep. It's powered by a bouncing riff and punchy vocals in the verse but 'Pound...' has a chorus and revolving guitar melody that mercilessly crashes onto the mind and refuses to leave without an eviction notice.

Those readers into traditional Metal should prepare themselves for an injection of unadulterated pleasure because 'Rise' is an absolute musical beast. In my opinion it could see Primitai catapulted into the genre's top echelons. Guy Miller has a vocal range that's perfect for their style; he can scowl and display attitude whilst still having the ability to wail. Chris Chilcott (drums) and Jamie Lordcastle (bass) should be nicknamed the Duracell Duo as they never seem to stop. But the undisputed stars have to be guitarists Srdjan Bilic and Tom Draper whose progressions, solos and dual lead work is immense. Technically this is every bit as good with crystal clear mixing and mastering by Fredrik Nordstrom (Arch Enemy, Firewind).

'Rise' is an awesome album that should definitely come with a sleep deprivation warning, because if it gets in your head you too will struggle to "rise" after being kept awake by Primitai.
