Title

Riseback are certainly eclectic, certainly different, but definitely worthy of investigation.

Founded in February 2010 in Istanbul, this Turkish modern Gothic alternative Metal band (they've offered this term as the best description of their style) also incorporate progressive, electronic, death, trash, metalcore and even pop, funk and jazz influences, and having lived with music all their lives, it's easy to hear the connection. I would guess influences range from Evanescence, After Forever, Skunk Anansie, Guano Apes and Halestorm, but stylistically they can be favourably compared to Lacuna Coil as they have a Gothic stamp and modern riffs and chord progressions that clearly follow Lacuna Coil's structure, and vocalist Riella Eskenazi's vocals aren't a million miles away from aping those of Christina Scabbia.

As they've stated that they don't want to be confined within a rigid generic structure you therefore have jazzy bass and funk elements mixed in with Gothic heavy dark riffs on 'The Criminal' and funk pop licks emitting their musical flavour before more prominent heavy riffs dominate the bridge section on 'Far Away', which incidentally was released on the Prog Power USA XII compilation album.

Riella, as well as being the vocalist, is the creative force behind Riseback, for as well as studying the piano at a young age, she is the band's lyricist and had a hand in writing the music of seven of the band's nine songs alongside guitarist Ali Safa Uzun and bassist Koner Memili. 'My Treasure' was also included on a compilation CD ('Metal Crowd Open Air Belarus Festival') and features Ali playing dark riffs through a distortion pedal whilst 'Fake Numb Face' has heavy pounding double bass drumming and staccato riffs mixed with a fast pace and Riella putting emphasis on her lyrical phrasing.

Elsewhere you get melodic slabs of progressive rhythms on 'Game Powered', melancholic piano and a lilting vocal line on 'Try To Say' before acoustic guitar and then full band accompaniment builds the ballad up to a grand finish. 'When The Dreams' has unusual pacing showing their prog leanings but the most striking song is the final one written and composed solely by Riella that has a piano and synth pop structure with a beautiful melancholic, clear, rich vocal line.

Riseback are certainly eclectic, certainly different, but definitely worthy of investigation.
