Title

This album is simply too good to miss.

"And He called the name of the place Taberah: because the fire of the LORD burnt among them".

Well I've never started a review like that before! However I knew you were wondering where on (Heaven or) Earth Tasmanian devils Taberah got their name. So is this God fearing stuff? Well no, with the lyrical concepts of 'Necromancer', the second full length album from Taberah referencing some Biblical fare, however more in a way that pits Good against Evil, and not always with the expected victors!

Musically things also genuflect to a higher order, with a whiff of NWOBHM rubbing shoulders with the likes of Helloween and a slowed down Dragonforce; resulting in an urgent and stunning barrage of riffs and screams, double kick blasts and galloping bass work. However unlike the current crop of new Power Metallers which Taberah do fall near to, there's an air of restraint here allowing the songs to build and flow through changes to tempo and intensity. Think a more full on Hell with slightly less theatrics and Devil worship and you'll not be far away.

It's all a bit retro, but the huge backing vocals, powering drums and flailing double lead guitar sorties sound as far from tired rehashes as you could possibly imagine. This is excellent stuff and whether you pick out the melodic thump and huge chorus of 'Necromancer', the rip-snorting guitar rushing 'Dying Wish' or the harmony vocal laden and more considered 'Warlord', there's little doubt you'll be carried away by the gloriously confident and accomplished take on a style of music seldom delivered with such verve. For some a band of this ilk stand or fall by their vocalist and Jonathon B. gives a splendid account of himself, leading from the front, yet never over reaching. However that he is also half of the stunning guitar team on display here, alongside Myles "Flash" Flood, marks him out as a real talent.

Taberah are the real deal and 'Necromancer' a release of surprising depth and strength. Even a closing cover version of the Deep Purple classic 'Burn' is attacked with such conviction that it confirms this album is simply too good to miss!

My fellow Fireworks writer, Steven is right on with his review. This is one outstanding, vocal heavy release. Taberah superbly mixes the hard rock of Cage, the excellent guitars of Danger Angel and the heavy melodic refrains of Dignity. At firt listen I was hooked as the guitars and pounding drums made my pulse race and my head bang. The vocals are loud, real loud and come right toward the listener with the speed and strength of a freight train.

Brace yourself and listen to the opening track, with mile high vocal harmonies is the heavy metal '2012', from there get lost in a sea of metal heaven with the glorious chugging guitars of 'Dying Wish', the mid-tempo, spiteful sounding 'Don't Say You'll Love Me Forever', the short instrumental 'One Goonbag Later', the ripping, heavy metal refrains of the CD highlight 'The Hammer Of Hades',
and the closing track, a cover of the legendary Deep Purple's 'Burn', is well done.

A fantastic CD all the way around. Nothing to add, and nothing to take away - for this is as complete of a CD as has been heard in a long time. The overall sound is great and every instrument is clear and fades in and out perfectly. Add this to your heavy metal/hard rock CD collection. For as Steven said in his review, "Taberah are the real deal and 'Necromancer' a release of surprising depth and strength." Yup, couldn't have said it any better myself.
