Matti Alfonzetti talks about new Skintrade album out in March

Skintrade singer Matti Alfonzetti has been speaking this week of the excitement in the line up, a mere few days before the release of new record "Refueled", a record he says is the perfect follow up to their debut of 1993. In an interview with Greek website Rock Overdose (www.rockoverdose.gr), the singer gives much more background to how the band got back together, and those initial recordings, which led to the band recording, and recording..., and recording some more....

“Originally, it all started with a request from Universal who wanted to release our two previous albums digitally but it led to the idea of releasing a compilation instead," says the singer. "Someone asked if we had any unreleased songs that we could add, and although we had to admit we didn't, we said, "but we can write some"! So we wrote those three new songs and bang....! That was the fire-starter that made us go! This band is still a monster!"

"We just couldn't stop at that...., so we decided to write for a whole new album…. All the original members except George Bravo were involved. You can imagine the tension when we hooked up for the first time after some 17 years.... We had a jam in the studio and it took about one minute before everyone was grinning like fools! We sounded exactly like we did back in the day!"

Did they regret the 1995 break up...?

"This is a question with many answers….. Basically we had some difficulties with agreeing on the direction for the second album "Roachpowder" (1995). There were three writers with very strong wills and we just couldn't compromise and come to terms with that. It is obvious for those who know us that "Roachpowder" is a very different album from the first."

"And touring had a great part to play in the split up as well too....We were in each other’s faces for so long and for so many miles that we got sick of seeing each other’s faces every damn morning! I think now though, we've still got a lot to say!"

And they certainly have. "Refueled" is a blast of new, powerful, fresh air, that packs a real punch; 12 stunningly powerful songs that will once again put Skintrade in an undisputed position as a Hard Rock band to be reckoned with...

"Refueled" is, to our mind, the album we should have done after "Skintrade", our first. It represents us as a band, where we are musically and what we are all about. We wrote every song with that in mind! We must have rejected 30 songs in the process of getting to 14 . We've just been extremely picky because good songs have staying power. In the end, good songs are what people remember! We chose Oscar (Ammer) and he came into the picture specifically for his mixing skills and his musicianship; he gets us and what we want soundwise."

 What happens next?

"We are currently discussing tours with promoters and we are looking at touring as much as possible, all over Europe, UK and anywhere they will have us! We're all focusing on Skintrade fully right now. The video and single "Monster" is out (you can catch the video here at this Youtube link);

"..... and we are very much a band! Everyone is pitching in 110 %! We worked hard with this album but the work has just begun!"

"Refueled" is out in the UK March 3rd

Quote of the day

"Rod Stewart, Elton John and I were going to form a band called Hair, Nose & Teeth, named after the three of us. But it hasn't happened yet because nobody could agree on the order of the words!" (Freddie Mercury) - Quotes collected by Dave Ling (www.daveling.co.uk)
