I was actually surprised by the range and variety of what has been gathered together under this rather unglamorous title.

44 tracks across two CDs featuring better-known bands such as Wheatus (whose UK No2 Single back in 2000 has spawned the title for this compilation), Blink-182, Bowling For Soup, Hoobastank, QOTSA, Papa Roach, The Rasmus, Marilyn Manson and Evanescence rubbing shoulders (if not a whole lot more) with (to me at least) the lesser knowns of the "pop punk" genre such as Len, Sublime, Metro Station, OK Go, Rival Schools and The Ataris, whose version of 'The Boys Of Summer' concludes the second disc and provided me with one of those "WTF?" moments. Checking, I see that it was a minor hit Single in a whole basket of countries back in 2003 – and despite my misgivings (and never knowingly having heard it previously) it isn't at all bad! (Don Henley fans, you can put your disdain back in your pockets, now!!)

During my time here at Fireworks Magazine and Rocktopia, regular readers will know that I enjoy a very broad range of the musical genres we cover. I'm not a fan of the funkier stuff, I freely admit, but at one end of the spectrum I have to own up to rather enjoying the sort of stuff that my colleague Mike Newdeck usually features in his reviews and thus also most of the tracks featured on 'Teenage Dirtbags'.

I was actually surprised by the range and variety of what has been gathered together under this rather unglamorous title, and the generally jaunty style of most of the music proved to be a wonderful accompaniment to my activities over the three occasions I listened to it before keyboarding these comments. Nothing demands close attention and I can tell that when I am (really) old, I may well play albums like this to get my daily dose of exercise (sat in my Armchair!)
