This album and this voice are what this Web site is all about.

What do you get when you have Steve Overland joining up with the production talents of Mike Slamer and a host of special guests that include the amazing guitarist Christian Wolff (Rob Moratti Band), Billy Greer and Billy Trudel on an album? What you get is, as the record title suggests, is something that is bloody 'EPIC'.

But what do you actually get on 'Epic'? This release is a set of fabulous Melodic Rock songs, sung by one of the (if not the) best Rock vocalists this country of ours has ever produced. When you add in some top-notch song writing, playing and production values courtesy of the previously mentioned Slamer, then you will begin to grasp just how good this album is. Elsewhere on the net I've seen some complaints that this release isn't a million miles away from some of the other things that Overland himself has worked on. When the quality of the songs and performances on 'Epic' are of this high standard... who the hell cares? Not me that's for sure.

Early in proceedings there is the awesome 'If Looks Could Kill' where Overland's vocals send shivers down the back of your neck. This is followed swiftly by 'Stranded' with its big hook line and killer guitar solo courtesy of Christian Wolff who is one of the albums standout features. 'Liberate My Heart' is the kind of mid-paced rocker that I could listen to on repeat and never get bored of doing so, whilst 'Down Comes The Night' begins with an almost 'That Girl' like keyboard intro, before morphing into a song that Streets would be proud of. Special mention must go to 'So This Is Love' which had this old fella, with bad knees and all, reaching for his air guitar so that he could join in with the band and give them a helping hand as the song played.

I have been lucky to review quite a few albums by Steve Overland and each time I do I always mention the fact that if he sang the phone book I'd buy it. So rest assured that on 'Epic' those silky smooth and always mesmerising vocals are once again present in their full joyous capacity. This time around they are joined together with more big songs and stellar musicians who have all helped to make this another winner for Overland. This album and this voice are what this Web site is all about.
