It’s always satisfying to see a young band living up to their growing reputation

Despite still being in their late teens and early twenties, it’s around three and a half years since The Treatment’s debut CD ‘This Might Hurt’ was originally released by Powerage Records, the impressive album being picked up for wider distribution by Spinefarm/Universal the following year. Since then we’ve had just the ‘Then And Again’ covers EP in 2012 and lots and lots of touring, both as headliners and supporting some of the biggest names in the business. The band have certainly put all that live experience to good use if this album is anything to go by.

Simple, catchy and adrenaline-fuelled, The Treatment’s new songs have a definite swagger and energy that even surpasses the debut, and whilst they’re not exactly re-inventing the wheel, they’ve at least given it shiny new hubcaps and are driving at great speed. ‘I Bleed Rock And Roll’, ‘World On Fire’ and ‘Drop Like A Stone’ are cases in point, each one has punchy chord changes, high octane vocals from Matt Jones, harmonized guitar solos from Tagore Grey and the recently departed Ben Brooklands, and the pumping rhythm section of bassist Swoggle and drummer Dhani Mansworth; but those aren’t even amongst the best tracks. There's the feel-good vibe of ‘Get The Party On’, the big harmonies of ‘What Is There To Say?’ and the contagious boogie of ‘She’s Too Much’, or how about the AC/DC influenced ‘Emergency’, the dark Tesla vibe of ‘Don't Get Mad, Get Evil’ or the gentle, acoustic-based ‘Unchain My World’, with Jones trying a completely different vocal style? My personal favourites are the raucous title-track with its real earworm of a chorus, the muscular wild west outing ‘Intro/The Outlaw’, the poppier anthem ‘Cloud Across The Sun’ and the superb ‘Don't Look Down’, which is everything The Treatment are about condensed into four perfect minutes.

With a sharp, snappy production and some seriously mature song-writing, it’s always satisfying to see a young band living up to their growing reputation. They’re already an exceptional outfit and ‘Running With The Dogs’ proves that, all they need now is for the rest of the world to catch on.
