The Vintage Caravan's 'Voyage' should really be marketed as a legal high.

Initially recorded in June 2012, 'Voyage' is the sophomore release of Icelandic trio, The Vintage Caravan, that was originally only available in their native homeland until they we given a deal by Nuclear Blast a year later.

Formed in Reykjavik back in 2006 by Oskar Logi Augstsson (vocals, guitar) and Gujon Reynisson (drums), the band is completed by Alex Orn Numason (bass). TVC produce music well beyond their tender years inspired by the judicious record collections of their parents. The music on offer here is unashamedly late sixties/early seventies, Psychedelic/Classic Rock with a few modern nuances thrown in for good measure.

Opening track 'Craving' kicks things off in big-style and you simply forget that the protagonists are mere teenagers. Early tracks like 'Craving' and 'Let Me Be' are a crazy fusion of Sabbath, King Crimson, Cream, Led Zeppelin, Yes and Gentle Giant.

'Do You Remember' immediately transports you back to the sixties into "Hippie Wonderland" with the great opening line - "Do you remember when we listened to Simon & Garfunkel?" Check out the amazing wacky YouTube video for the 'Expand Your Mind' adding a great sense of humour to their already abundance of talents. 'M.A.R.S.W.A.T.T', (nope, haven't a clue!), contains the classic lines - "I went down, into the town, and to my surprise, I saw the Starship Enterprise." The "trip" continues with 'Cocaine Sally', a modern Rock song paying homage to the seventies.

My personal favourite track is the wonderfully psychedelic 'Winterland' (similar to Sabbath's 'Planet Caravan'), that changes up mid-section before refraining to the atmospheric opening; it's over six minutes of pure genius. 'Midnight Meditation' flagrantly borrows the riff from 'Paranoid' and sounds like a Jet/Wolfmother hybrid. The album concludes with the twelve-minute epic 'The King's Voyage' which is a Floyd/Sabbath/Hawkwind "mega-trip".

The biggest compliment I can give this is that listening to 'Voyage' makes you think that you are listening to a classic from a by-gone age. The production is even intentionally 'muddy' to give the album that real old school feel. Although it did not come with my promotional copy, a mention must also be made of the fantastic retro and psychedelic album cover.

The Vintage Caravan's 'Voyage' should really be marketed as a legal high!
