Delivers a satisfactory listen.

With this, think thumping bass lines, dual powerful riffs and high-range vocals. Think Black Sabbath, Savatage, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest...then spice things up with a little bit of a modern Power Metal sound. Although Thunder Tribe claim to have been inspired by bands such as Ratt, Triumph and Def Leppard (at least guessing by the cover favourites list published on their Facebook profile), what they deliver is mostly guitar-driven, straight-in-your-face Progressive Metal. 'War Chant', the album they have just released, is clear proof of this.

'War Chant' depicts this American band trying to get the best of both worlds – their music corresponds with today's standards of Metal but also bears traces of classic inspirations. The end result is the substantially varied material perceptible throughout the album. With the first song 'More Wicked Than Not', the grim opening sequence leads into a furious Heavy Metal gallop; the same formula the group uses in their next song 'Part Of The Black' as well as the final track 'Watching It Burn'.

There are also songs like 'Fly' and 'Believe', which sound very modern along with ballads like 'Say Goodbye' and 'The Light' which are best described as epic – in a very Queensrÿche-esque manner. 'It's A Lie' is itself an interesting cross: the verses are mellower, with a certain 1980s Glam Metal vibe to them that leads to surprisingly aggressive choruses. 'Above The Blue' surprises even more being essentially an excellent Blues track (the best one on the record, hands down), as well as providing evidence that there is more to TT than just fast tempo guitar riffs and ferocious sound.

'War Chant' is neither a disappointment nor a record that makes rock history. Thunder Tribe has the potential to evolve into excellence especially considering the musicians' long term experiences in other bands, (Pownd, Shatter Messiah, XS etc.). The result of their work still delivers a satisfactory listen.
