Delivered with the classy, self-assured swagger of a band who can sense that their time is drawing ever closer.

A West Midlands based quartet who've fastidiously been creating something of a genuine buzz on the digital equivalent of the "ol' bush telegraph" of late – helped enormously by the fact that they've already supported the likes of Black Sabbath, Alter Bridge and Avenged Sevenfold, not to mention being there or thereabouts in a host of 'Best Newcomer' polls and awards – with the release of their sophomore full-length album 'Impera', you get the impression that Martyr De Mona may just be on the verge of something big.

Produced by Romesh Dodangoda (Bullet For My Valentine, Funeral For A Friend, Motorhead, etc.), 'Impera' is a thoroughly contemporary, nay "modern" sounding release, yet at the same time it has strong traditional Hard Rock/Heavy Metal sensibilities that hark back a generation or two. As you'd expect with a producer of such standing, the sonic properties of the album are pretty spectacular – to these ears Dodangoda is up there with the likes of Dennis Ward, Andy Sneap and Sascha Paeth – a humungous wall of sound delivered with absolute clarity, but 'Impera' is actually so much more than that.

Led from the front by the impassioned vocal roar of Louis Hale (complemented at times by some suitably histrionic harmonies courtesy of the rest of the band), the album kicks off on a melodramatic high with rousing opener 'Siege Mentality'. Building slowly Metallica style with an ever more persuasive string/piano intro, it gradually flares into life as the guitars kick in and the expertly channelled rage sends your senses reeling ... a stunning way to open any album, and one that really wets the appetite!

A shift in gear marks the arrival of first single 'Influence & Persuasion', a truly incendiary statement of intent that really emphasises just how far the band have travelled from their "Post Grunge wannabes" roots in the last couple of years. Characterised by complex, constantly rotating riffs and rhythms (there's a really intense Progressive Metal feel a la classic Eldritch circa 'Seeds Of Rage'/'Headquake' permeating throughout), darkly twisted yet hauntingly memorable melodies and hooks; the likes of 'Reprisal', 'Sentiment', 'Nothing Sacred' and 'Suffer Unto Me' have all the hallmarks of future classics stamped on them in indelible ink.

Delivered with the classy, self-assured swagger of a band who can sense that their time is drawing ever closer; if a senses tripping blend of Metallica, Sabbath, BFMV and Eldritch (amongst others) sounds like it might be up your street, then let 'Impera' shatter any misguided preconceptions that might still linger about the state of the scene today.

From chaos there must ultimately come order, and on the strength of this release Martyr De Mona seem perfectly poised to lead the way...
