Celebrating a movement that once took the western world by storm, Jettblack look set for success in today’s thriving revival scene.

Among the rock industry’s fastest rising trends, 80s revivalism has become something of a bandwagon in recent years. Joining the likes of Airbourne and Steel Panther, sleaze merchants Jettblack are the latest young bucks to jump eagerly aboard. Capturing the sun-drenched glamour of L.A.’s Sunset Strip, ‘Get Your Hands Dirty’ reveals no trace of its surprising UK origins.

Although crammed with Mötley Crüe’s testosterone-driven guitars, these talented musicians demonstrate little interest in make-up and posturing. Showcasing an encyclopaedic knowledge of rock ’n’ roll, the band handle rock and thrash riffs with unrivalled passion and expertise. Crowd-pleasing solos meet slow-burning breakdowns for a nostalgic appeal laced with a hint of individuality. Where their peers play safe with innuendos, Jettblack cut to the X-rated chase with tales of sexual exploits that occasionally border on grotesque. Threatening to ‘Lay you down and sow my seed,’ Mother Fucker is a particularly knuckle-dragging anthem, which, despite its dated lyrics, seethes with captivating rage. Swaggering frontman Jon Dow delivers an entertaining, though stereotypical performance, masking his own unique range in stadium rock-inspired delivery. However, power ballad ‘War Between Us’ reveals a wealth of silken and abrasive vocals. Venturing beyond the band’s tribute act tendencies, ‘Innocence Is Mine’ is an epic standout, meandering from lilting acoustics to Metallica-esque shredding.

Purveying a no-frills approach to rock ’n’ roll, ‘…Dirty’s’ simple, upbeat songwriting will no doubt make for electrifying live material. Its energetic title track is already packed with arena-style chants, producing an instant fan favourite. Muted midsections and low-slung guitars provide sufficient tension to enhance Jettblack’s explosive guitar licks and choruses.

With face-melting musicianship and no-holds-barred attitude, ‘…Dirty’ perfectly captures the spirit of unadulterated rock ’n’ roll. Celebrating a movement that once took the western world by storm, Jettblack look set for success in today’s thriving revival scene.
