This should resonate well with a whole swathe of our readers but especially those into Issa, Fiona and Robin Beck.

Despite my well documented love of Female-Fronted Metal, I am equally open to music that is far more accessible, popular and catchy. Two of my top tracks from last year were the exceedingly contagious, "radio friendly" 'We Live On' (Anneke van Giersbergen) and 'Hollow' (Ajenda) and one of my more regularly played albums is 'Sign Of Angels' from Issa.

Martina Edoff is a Swedish singer/song-writer who's probably best known in her home country having been a backing singing for many years with the likes of Dr Alban, Ace Of Base and E-Type as well as taking part in the Swedish reality show 'Fame Factory'. She took a break from the music industry in 2005 but was persuaded to return with the offer of a record deal.

This self-titled release consists of ten tracks with nine co-written originals and one cover (Mr Big's 'Just Take My Heart'). It was clear for the first few minutes that this is a debut full of hooks bigger than the Titanic anchor and one that's more infectious than the common cold. 'On The Top' kicks things off; it's an awesome sun shining, top down, driven Rocker with a chorus you will find hard to wipe from your mind. From the first listen I could just see Edoff on the Firefest stage (no doubt flanked by James Christian) strutting from side to side, microphone in hand.

The verses of 'Who You Are' and 'Heartland' are Blusey and bouncy respectively but both led to two more highly memorable choruses. Along with '...Top', another that had me strutting around in best Mrs Doubtfire air guitar/dancing mode (less the cross-dressing... my dancing alone is jaw-dropping enough) was 'Seduce Your mind'; there's a punchy verse, squealing keys and another chorus, built on a revolving riff, that you will have trouble evicting from your mind. As would be expected there are three ballads, the slightly Country-fied Mr Big cover, the slightly more powerful 'Seeds Of Love (Mother Nature's Song) and the passionate 'My Moment'.

I'll admit this album doesn't re-invent the wheel but it is the sort of release that was made for Fireworks. It's classic Melodic Rock (with the odd added influence such as Pop) full of melody, quality guitar work (not surprising given the inclusion of three guitarists) with strong vocals that's rounded off with top draw, clear production values from Robert Wellerfors (Houston, W.E.T.). I don't know what they are feeding their musicians and singers in that country but this represents another fine export from Sweden. This should resonate well with a whole swathe of our readers but especially those into Issa, Fiona and Robin Beck with whom Martina Edoff can stand proud.
