An eclectic mix of styles with Clarke's signature throaty vocals ripping across it all.

Vocalist and founder of American Rock band Warrior Soul, Kory Clarke is back with a brand new solo Hard Rock album. It's an eclectic mix of styles with Clarke's signature throaty vocals ripping across it all. Generally, it's softer than WS but the same consistent, driving drum part often crops up, albeit with more interesting bass and rhythm sections.

Album opener 'Payback's A Bitch' gets a little repetitive around the chorus, much like 'Hoezone'. 'Freak' is the first of two tracks by Bob Kennedy of Acid; both this and 'Rock 'N' Roll Genocide' exhibit more commercial Hard Rock, though Clarke's voice lends itself well to adding something more interesting and exciting.

'Devil's Highway' shows what Clarke is really good at; knowing when to not have everything playing and having the confidence to do it too. Though the track itself isn't gripping, the heavier sound paired with the thinner texture is something a little different. Gary Hood's 'What Good Is Goodbye' is one of the better tracks; the Hammond Organ sets a dwelling and nostalgic mood amongst acoustic and Country vibes. 'Get Down To Bizzness' chucks in a bit of Jazz while 'Jaegermeister Machines' sees Clarke talk his way over brooding bass and drums.

The last three tracks are slower; 'The Last Hand' is more soulful while 'Death And Taxes' has some interesting bass rhythms going on but lacks the energy to really move it along. Closer 'Meet Me In Las Vegas' had a bit too much wailing and whining making the notes seem stumbling and loose.

Kory Clarke is a good musician and I love his voice but for me this album not only lacked the Grungy tones of Warrior Soul but it also lacked the alternative; a coherent theme and style for a solo album to hang on.
