Well worth your hard earned pennies.

Germany's Wicked Sensation have been around since the tail end of the 1990s, and to date they had put out three studio albums filled with classy Melodic Hard Rock. New release 'Adrenaline Rush' is number four and it's a slight departure in sound for them.

Gone is the more European sound and in its place a more American Hard Rock style of writing and playing. This might however be down to just one man, the band's new (temporary, see interview) vocalist, Bangalore Choir's David Reece. Reece, as you all know, has been in constant demand since BC reformed and until recently he was singing for U.S. Rockers Tango Down. So when it was announced a couple of months ago that Reece had left TD and joined WS, I was more than a little surprised because his work with TD was excellent. Thankfully, I can tell you that what he's done on the new '...Rush' album from WS is even better and I love this new sound the band have taken with their songs.

The music itself is a molten melting pot of Hard/Melodic Rock with an, at times, Metal edge, but what never goes away as you listen to the songs is the amount of melodies the band have used thorough out the album. They are ingrained in every track and seep out as each and every one is played (which is always a good thing). Just give a listen to 'Misery' with its catchy riff or 'No More Lies' and I defy you not to look down and find your foot subconsciously tapping away to the music. Then there's 'Blue Painted Sky' and 'Angel In Black', songs that almost out-Autograph Autograph (if you know what I mean?). Both have massive melodic hooks and the guitar work of WS's main protagonist Michael Klien and his guitar partner Sang Vong is stunning and memorable. The semi-ballad 'Living On My Madness' has that wonderful Reece rasp and the band are on inspired form as they accompany him. To end, we get a stunning acoustic ballad, entitled 'This Time', where Reece and the band show a whole different side to their musical natures. Plaintive, passionate and captivating describes this song and it's one of the album highlights, even though there's not an electric guitar in sight.

This album should see the band going from the minor to the major leagues of Melodic Rock because Wicked Sensation have really upped their game on 'Adrenaline Rush'. The song-writing has been taken to another level, way above what they did before, and with the addition of Reece they now have all the tools to go a long way. Well worth your hard earned pennies.
