Combines the unbridled upward trajectory of great Power Metal songs with the thoughtful complexity of Progressive Metal.

No one does Power Metal quite like the Europeans; conquerors like Primal Fear, Avantasia and Powerwolf tear it up like nobody's business keeping the scene vibrant as ever. Funnily enough, all those bands come from Germany which is where you will find rising Power Metal crushers Red Circuit who are gaining traction and in lead vocalist Chity Somapala, they have decent pedigree in their field.

Combining the unbridled upward trajectory of great Power Metal songs with the thoughtful complexity of Progressive Metal, RC combines the two with a slick ease. Two previous releases in 'Homeland' and 'Trance State' have set the wheels in motion but with album number three, 'Haze Of Nemesis', the car is racing into the sunset.

The guitars are not quite as heavy as previous releases but this allows Markus Teske's chilling atmospherics and Michael Stein's unshakable drumming to breathe. If his previous work didn't convince you that ex-Avalon and Firewind lead singer Somapala has one of the most underrated voices in the melodic sphere, then this surely will.

His soaring high range is now backed up by a soulful hard-fought tone landing him somewhere between Bob Catley and Robin Zander which works wonderfully when tracks like opener 'Oceans Apart' are musically relatively unchallenging but call for a huge set of lungs. 'My Lonely Heaven' and 'My Serenade' ooze epic quality from every pore that intertwines solid power and grand choruses brought to life by stunning song-writing.

Some versions of '...Nemesis' come with an hour-long bonus DVD recorded at the 2011 Progpower U.S.A. XII. RC were working on tracks for the album at the time and the early versions of the new songs bristle with life in a live setting sidling up nicely to the classics like 'Homeland' and 'Under The Sun'.

Written by keyboard player Teske, 'Haze Of Nemesis' may have come too late for such things, but to select it as one of the albums of 2014 would not be a huge stretch, just a demonstration of how much of an improvement Red Circuit have made since that 2006 debut.
