This is an impressive and vibrant collection of contemporary Blues Rock, seamless weaving in flavours of Funk.

The chances of you having come across the work of Dan Patlansky before are slim, unless you live in South Africa, where he resides and has released six previous records. However, it's 'Dear Silence Thieves', his most recent effort, which looks set to launch him up to the next level.

Things really picked up for Patlansky last year, where he was picked to open for Bruce Springsteen in Johannesburg in front of an audience of around seventy thousand people – a big achievement in its own right, one made even more special when you consider it was Springsteen himself who picked him, with "The Boss" even watching Patlansky's set from the side of the stage. Then, upon the release of 'Dear...', Patlansky's record was voted the number one Blues Rock album by Blues Rock Review in the U.S., topping a list that also featured Rival Sons, Joe Bonamassa, Philip Sayce and The Black Keys, just to name a few.

With things on the up and more and more people asking the "who?" question, Patlansky's record is now getting a U.K. release and several labels are said to be showing interest. It's no wonder, as soon as you hear the opening song 'Backbite', he has your attention. There's a slightly Funky feel to the opening riff, the booming drum sound and Patlansky's vocals remind me of some of the material Stevie Salas has delivered; there's Blues DNA running through it all. The song has been making everyone who has heard it take notice, and 'Pop Collar Jockey' has a similar grip. The echo laden vocals and arpeggio riff are a lethal combination with the drums holding back until the last moment.

The album sounds huge, as it was recorded "mostly" live. 'Fetch Your Spade' has Rock chops in abundance while still keeping the Blues on its sleeve. There are many other choice cuts such as the shuffling 'Taking Chances' and the Funk of 'Feels Like Home' as well as the acoustic driven 'Windmills And The Sea', the trademark Blues licks of 'Only An Ocean' and the delightful closer 'Madison Lane'.

With material of this strength there is little wonder Dan Patlansky is breaking through. This is an impressive and vibrant collection of contemporary Blues Rock, seamless weaving in flavours of Funk. Great stuff!
