Stunning album and every home should have one - yours too.

Every now and again a band comes along, and despite having one of the most non-descript names in the business, they simply grab you by the collar (and your nether-regions) and make you sit up and take notice. Tonk is that band.

Hailing from Canberra, Australia, Tonk are a five-piece and to be quite honest possess not only a fine pair of shredders in Steve and Ben, but also a mighty fine vocalist in Jinx, someone who reminds the listener of a cross between Zak Stevens (Savatage, Circle II Circle) and a little touch of Drew Rose (Wildside).

For a debut album , Tonk have come up with nigh on a masterpiece of in your face, riff heavy, bottom end heavy, powerful, meaty Hard Rock; the type Bad Moon Rising, Lynch Mob, Wildside and Lillian Axe all made careers from.

From the opening kick in the face of 'Pleasure And Pain' there is little or no let up as Tonk riff their way through a series of excellently written, powerful, chunky and above all hugely melodic tracks such as 'Snake Eyes' and the glorious 'Voodoo' which echoes LM in their absolute prime. I defy you not to admire the swagger that is stamped all over this, it's as infectious as infectious can be with no antidote in sight.

Just when you think it's safe to come up for air, even the slower paced 'Last Goodbye' pins you to the wall with its earthy delivery and powerful vocal line. When you think this possibly can't get any better 'End Of The Line' emerges from the speakers, blessed with a glorious melody and some serious shredding before the album run-in of the Punky 'Scene Queen', 'One Foot In The Grave' and 'Over The Edge' seal the deal making 'Ruby Voodoo' a must have for any self-respecting fan of Hard Rock.

Reinventing the wheel it is not, however there are not many bands out there today playing old-school, riff-based Hard Rock that have ALL the tools to make it work like it should. Tonk have and do. As debut albums go, this is among the best you are likely to hear and the more you play it the more you will love it. It is pretty instant as it is, but on constant repeat it reveals a little more of itself on each play. Stunning album and every home should have one – yours too!
