A solid album full of Melodic Rock with a few twists and turns.
JoyFocus has released a simple but effective album entitled 'Random Access Digital Audio Heresy' showcasing the vocal talents of Holly Joy and the multi-instrumentalist Rikk Currence; song-writing, production and art design are also handled by the talented Currence.
The Joy/Currence duo approach gives an intimate feel to proceedings; being Pop-based Melodic Rock, it doesn't detract if at least some of the drums are programmed (that's my opinion, apologies if they are indeed organic!). The layered approach of Currence's keyboards and guitars complements Joy's vocals which are commercial with a slight Country vibe to them.
As for the songs in '...Heresy', the mid-tempo 'Gone' is a catchy "radio-friendly" song with a strong chorus and a good all round stomp to proceedings. The power ballad is the sweet spot for JoyFocus and the rousing 'Words' has a top-drawer chorus to it and all the ingredients of a great song including an interesting guitar solo. The highlight for me is the album closer 'Home' with it narrative verse, orchestral keyboard backing and slow build up to its triumphant chorus.
Overall, I would say the vocals and general song structures in 'Random Access Digital Audio Heresy' are in the envelope of Pat Benatar and that's high praise indeed. A solid album full of Melodic Rock with a few twists and turns.
