Lioncage are a three-piece band hailing from Germany that is made up of Torsten Landsberger on drums, Lars Konig on guitars and Thorsten Bertermann handling the vocals. They straddle a line between traditional AOR, Melodic Rock and perhaps even the higher precision AOR bands such as Toto.

The band has delivered a solid body of songs that never stray too far from the formula, but what does impress is the consistent high quality of the musicianship on the album. There are plenty of guests involved but one noticeable addition in that department is the involvement of Olaf Senkbeil who people may remember as the lead singer of Dreamtide (remember those three albums between 2001 and 2008 featuring Helge Engelke and C.C. Behrens from Fair Warning?).

'Mission Of Love' kicks the album off in fine style, setting the stall out for the remainder of the album. The bass driven 'Stay' is complimented by some seriously fine guitar work from Konig (I assume) and 'Dancing Queen' – no not the Abba super hit – is a cracking little tune featuring some cool time changes and rhythms as well as relying on classical guitar to get the message across. 'Where Do We Go' is also well worth a mention, with some wonderful harmonies from the ladies.

All in all Lioncage have done a very commendable job in delivering a very high quality album. If I were to have any form of slight reservation, it is that the vocals of Bertermann may be something of an acquired taste to some. That's not to say his delivery is poor, far from it, it's more a case of his distinctive voice may not appeal to everyone, which would be a shame.

After repeated plays, this album becomes a familiar friend; be sure to afford yourself the opportunity to hit the repeat button in order to fully appreciate this release's many wonderful layers.
