Full of melody, great musicianship and above all else great songs.

Talon's first album was, in most people's eyes, a bit of a success story. It gained both critical and fan approval across the board and saw the band playing at The Gods Of AOR Festival. From that humble start, the band continued to grow but seemed to be dogged by the "ever changing vocalist" syndrome.

They recruited Chandler Mogul (Outloud/solo) as their singer for their second release when original vocalist Michael O'Mara left the band. Mogul's work with Outloud however started to take up most of his time, so Talon then recorded their third album, simply titled 'III', with Line Of Fire's Shawn Peleta. Which happily brings us full circle to new album 'Fourplay' where again we see another change in vocalists, with O'Mara making his welcome return to the Talon family.

And it's this return that seems to have revitalised Talon's music. They were always a very good Hard Rock act but 'Fourplay' is leaps and bounds ahead of their other albums. Not just in the quality of the musicianship but especially in the song-writing department.

'Spun' kicks things off in fine style with a strong vocal hook, big chorus and a superb guitar solo from guest guitarist Tim Pierce and from this auspicious start the band keep hitting us with potent Hard Rock gems. 'Sin City Sister' is all swagger and attitude, 'Holly Would' is a groove-laden track with a great O'Mara vocal whilst 'Set Me Free' is an up-tempo Rocker that has a wonderful riff and guitar solo and sees O'Mara once again having a ball.

One of my personal favourites is the Country-ish Rock of 'I Don't Wanna Cry'; an acoustic-based song full of great band performances which goes to prove that Talon have more than one string to their bow. Lastly, there's the glorious Melodic Rocker 'Ride Em' High' with its strong chorus and great harmony vocals. This really is one of the standout moments on 'Fourplay'.

It's been a blast listening to this album from Talon and it shows that we still have bands out there who know how to write albums full of melody, great musicianship and above all else great songs. Nice to have you back guys.
