Has all that he has done previously in one gorgeous package.

This is what Scott Weiland did next. After the drug busts, the "he's in then he's out" Stone Temple Pilots saga, the "lead singer disease" Velvet Revolver comments and the brilliantly odd solo albums, here he is again doing what he wants and excelling at being him.

Let's face it, STP with Chester Bennington are okay for an aperitif, but he is not a patch on the charismatic, melodic front-man who preceded him. Weiland has never been afraid of showing us who he loves - that David Bowie fixation is clear and clever whilst the bopping pixie himself, Marc Bolan, is all over this (and not just because of a ramped up version of '20th Century Boy' either).

Others have mentioned Funk, but this has the glitter stomp of Glam and the fuzz of a Garage band. When allied to those Weiland standard sugar hit melodies, it works beautifully. He sways, he preens, he pleases; oh, how he pleases. Partners in crime are the Wildabouts; Tommy Black, Jeremy Brown and Dan Thompson, but this is Weiland touching all his bases.

And so 'Modzilla' screams "this is what you've missed" with its dirty riff, shining chorus and itchy Funkiness, 'Hotel Rio' even starts with handclaps before stack heels strut the floor and 'White Lightning' has a tush-shaking stripper vibe.

This is wonderful stuff, even if we can't help but say "oh, that's STP"; it is the nearest he had been to them. Sometimes we may have heard him do this before (lovely though it is) but, like 'Beach Pop', when a Bowie dramatic turn arrives, it transforms an acceptable song into a great one. And he ends with a simple 1970's acoustic ballad in 'Circles', catching his breath and putting himself to bed safely.

This doesn't have the sweep, aspiration and sheer chutzpah of 'Happy In Galoshes' (not much does), but 'Blaster' has all that he has done previously in one gorgeous package. Where will he go next? To the moon, my friend, to the moon.
