Some splendid re-recorded versions of classic Moxy songs.

Canadian Hard Rockers Moxy first hit the music headlines back in 1974 when their first single 'Can't You See I'm A Star' started to get regular airplay on Canadian radio station CHUM AM.

What followed was a rollercoaster ride that saw the band signing with Polydor and having their albums produced by the legendary Jack Douglas (Aerosmith/Blue Öyster Cult/Starz). With successful tours and albums under their belts, Moxy looked ready to take on the world when tragedy struck; their lead singer Buzz Shearman was sadly killed in a motorcycle accident in 1983 and the band, although they carried on in various forms, never really got over this.

Nevertheless, founder band member and lead guitarist Earl Johnson decided that, even though he'd be writing and playing with different incarnations of Moxy for many years, that it was now time to put the band back together and properly celebrate Moxy's 40th Anniversary. He then set about assembling an international cast of musicians to help him and he's joined on this album by Nick Walsh (Slik Toxik, Famous Underground) on lead vocals, Alexis Von Kraven (ex-Heavens Fire) on drums, Rob Robbins (Rhett Forrester) on guitar and Oscar Anesetti (Rabid Hole) on bass.

And what you get on this release are some splendid re-recorded versions of classic Moxy songs. I'm not usually a big a fan of re-recorded stuff but Moxy (this version) have done such a marvellous job (in Walsh they have a singer who can really do these songs justice) that I soon found my reservations falling away.

Songs from the band's illustrious past like 'Midnight Flight', 'Moon Rider', 'Out Of The Darkness', 'Nothing Comes Easy', 'Through The Storm', 'Sail On, Sail Away' and new track 'Trouble', which fits in perfectly with the older material, can all be found on this album (plus many more) and it was truly a blast to revisit Moxy's back catalogue.

There's also the added bonus of some special packaging for this release plus a live DVD recorded in Toronto back in 2013 that comes free with the first two thousand copies of the album. It's a basic, club shot video but the sound is good and the band are clearly having a ball; it's a very nice thing to have.

Personally, for me, this is a "must have" album, especially for fans of classic Canadian Hard Rock. Also it's a great introduction (if you haven't heard them before) to one of Rock's cult bands. Now where's the re-issues of Moxy I-II etc?
