Definitely a band giving their all and this album is testament to that.
In 2001 The Quireboys released 'This Is Rock 'N' Roll' to herald their return to being a going concern. Recorded at EMG Studios in L.A., Spike and Guy Griffin definitely reaffirmed their writing partnership after their split, eight years previously. Now, after their resurgence yet again and gaining many new fans in the U.K. and U.S. (following several appearances on the Monsters Of Rock Cruise and successful trips to the U.S.), they have decided to re-package and re-release the album as 'This Is Rock N Roll II' with four bonus tracks.
Released on U.K. label Off Yer Rocka, the album, which was produced in the most part by C.J. Eiriksen (the bonus tracks being produced by the legendary Chris Tsangarides), sounds as gritty and raw as it ever did. This is something I feel the bonus tracks, whilst all personal favourites of mine, lack a little as they are far brighter sounding. Not usually a bad thing, but the QB's pride themselves on their down and dirty sound.
The four 2014 recorded classics are 'Hey You', 'Misled', '7 O'Clock' and 'There She Goes Again'. I must say that you can't fault this band for their tenacity and sheer hard work to get back up to the forefront of the Rock scene and, whilst they have had quite the revolving door of drummers, ex-Union drummer Dave McCluskey is now firmly in the fold and has added a great depth to their performance.
Currently on their 30th anniversary tour, get out and see The Quireboys if you can. Definitely a band giving their all and this album is testament to that.
