They prove proud enough and brave enough to 'Stand Up And Be Counted'. Will you?

Back in 2013 I had no hesitation in proclaiming that Northern Ireland's Screaming Eagles had announced themselves on the Rock world with one of the debut albums of that year. Two years down the line and that stunningly strong introduction has been built upon with the fantastic 'Stand Up And Be Counted', an album that will prove to be one of the home-grown albums of this year. So what exactly is it about this bunch that has me, for a second time, all a-froth? Well with the band taking their AC/DC framework and kicking it squarely up the arse with a smack of prime-time Black 'N' Blue, the heavy end of Kiss and a touch of fired-up Blackberry Smoke, what's not to get excited about?

Guitarist Adrian McAleenan is a star in the making, his solos fiery and riffs threatening, yet there are no histrionics on show. Instead the song comes first every time and with bassist Ryan Lilly and drummer Kyle Cruickshank matching him every step of the way, the effect is towering. Likewise vocalist Chris Fry hits the mark time and again, his throaty rush of power everything you could wish for from a front-man; attitude ably backed up by a hugely convincing delivery. As with all the best gang-leaders, it's hard to rip your attention from his charismatic, youthful Phil Mogg-like attack and yet not for a second does he upstage the rip-roaring riffs that rampage throughout the opening sprint of 'Ready For The Fall', deserved strut of 'Get Out While I'm Ahead', or AC/DC on steroids of 'Screaming Eagles'.

That the down and dirty Boogie of 'Save Me', the swagger of 'Bow Down To The Blues' and the rumbling roll of 'Breakin' All The Rules' all find an outfit willing, and more importantly able, to alter their attack without losing an inch of their impact and thus showing maturity way beyond this band's years.

We may have gone through some lean times in the U.K.'s Classic Rock scene, yet with the likes of BlackWolf, Bad Touch and The King Lot also making waves, a serious resurgence is on the cards. Screaming Eagles will be right at the forefront of that movement, as they prove proud enough and brave enough to 'Stand Up And Be Counted'. Will you?
