I look forward to repeated daily spins of 'Unity'; excellent stuff.

Martina Edoff returns with her second solo album 'Unity' following on from the self-titled debut a year ago. Having spent most of her career either writing or performing with "Chart" acts such as Dr. Alban, Ace Of Base and E-Type, Edoff now returns to her "roots" as her heart was never in what she was doing previously. Strange claim, considering she's made her career in the Pop field, although who am I to dispute it?

Recorded at Bohus Studios in Sweden which has seen action from acts such as Status Quo, Abba, Westlife and more over its distinguished history, the most surprising fact being that this album was co-produced by Jona Tee (H.e.a.t). Not so much surprising in terms of his production capabilities as he is a seriously talented guy, but with H.e.a.t being as busy as they are, how does he find the time? Of course, Tee also managed to drag along some of the H.e.a.t guys to play as well.

So what's on offer? Well on the musical front, we're presented with an album of excellently played tracks blessed with a rather sparkling production. Standout song is the bombastic 'Come Alive', a track straight out of the great Scandinavian handbook of how to write brilliant, catchy, Melodic Rock with soaring choruses. 'Love Keeps Turning Away' is yet another monster although for those with a keen ear, you might just detect a nod towards H.e.a.t's 'Emergency'.

The ballad-tastic 'Moment Of Truth' may just about rival '...Alive' for the standout honour, its sumptuous, powerful with a soaring vocal from Edoff. I say this with absolutely no disrespect what so ever but this is a Eurovision winner hands down. It's nothing short of a phenomenal performance not only vocally but musically; it's as close to perfect balladry as you could ever wish for. 'Sound Of Thunder' is yet another kick-arse stomper with swathes of backing vocals and Edoff's vocals are as good as any you may wish to compare her to. The two closers for some reason remind me a little of Anastacia in terms of their more modern production; perfectly produced and executed Pop Rock.

I really didn't think that the album was going to be good, just another in a long line of "let's see who we can rope in to make a Melodic Rock album" projects that we have been subjected to in recent years. However 'Unity', despite the odd track selection which finds the absolute killers all loaded on the back end, has firmly established itself in my "Top 10 Albums Of 2015".

Roll on album number three, and in the meantime, I look forward to repeated daily spins of 'Unity'; excellent stuff.
