Absolva deliver a set of songs capable of rivalling even the top dogs of this genre.

Possibly the most consistent exponents of U.K. Metal in recent years, outside of the big boys likes Saxon and Iron Maiden, Absolva return with album number three, 'Never A Good Day To Die', with no sign of any drop in quality. It's a simple formula of taking great songs in the vein of latter day Saxon, adding a more contemporary edge and hammering them out with utter conviction and boundless energy.

When you can then call on the vocal guile of Chris Appleton, there's simply not a chink to find in the Absolva armour. Freed up from his bass duties (as Iced Earth take a well-deserved break), Luke Appleton not only has a strong hand in the construction of these songs, he's also the band's current co-guitarist alongside as his brother. Hence with the mighty thunder of Martin McNee still providing the earth-shaking percussive power we know and love, we now (in a fashion) have the pre-Absolva trio Fury UK back together, with bassist Karl Schramm completing the line-up.

Consisting of eleven songs and just over fifty-five minutes of music, that 'Never A Good Day To Die' never even threatens to tail off at any point is testament to how far this ever impressive band have come. Previewed on their recent live dates, 'No One Escapes' is set to continue its status as crowd pleaser and air puncher, with the scything swipe of the album's title cut just as bewitching.

However with tracks such as 'Killer Within', 'No Tomorrow' and 'Orphan Of God' arriving with such a memorable force and mature edge, words like "promise" and "potential" can now be completely cast aside as Absolva deliver a set of songs capable of rivalling even the top dogs of this genre.

With countless European outfits garnering critical acclaim and jealous looks, it's somehow satisfying to know that the country who gave the world this style of music in the first place, can still come up with bands of the calibre of Absolva.
