They make a bloody noisy racket considering there's only the two of them.

This Aussie Duo deliver raw Garage Rock 'n' Roll that gets to the bleeding heart of what makes loud Rock music so much goddamn fun. Dale Hudak and Brendan Harvey's music is driven by raw, scorched riffs that are as stripped and bare as the desert outback. The music is a fizzing mix of Blues-based Rock, Grunge, Rock 'n' Roll, Hillbilly and Stoner.

They make a bloody noisy racket considering there's only the two of them. Hudak's drums are augmented by an upturned bottle bin that's miked up (of course) and the pair's vocals are often fed through a Blues harp mic to give them that amplified, gravelly quality.

This is their second album, the follow-up to 'Cock Robin'. Their debut came out of years of gigging but this disc came together quicker, with the duo committing to writing and recording sessions specifically for this record. It manages to avoid the usual sophomore slump as their brand of warts 'n' all Rawk probably benefits from being hastily assembled, as its raggedness is part of its charm.

Despite being only two of them they manage to create diversity out of a fairly sparse palate. 'Get Away' has a Grungy, Stoner quality as the riffs drive relentlessly through the song, 'New Wave' has a spiky Danko Jones edginess; it's "in your face", all bad breath and attitude. 'High Love' and 'Devil's Door' are amped up Rock 'n' Roll a la The White Stripes whereas 'Voodoo' has an early ZZ Top feel, dragging you down into the Texan mud.

Personally speaking, the best track is saved until close to the end; 'Sick 'N' Tired' starts off as stark Voodoo Blues before a riff as big as Ayers Rock appears which then goes off at a tangent, with band Rapping like they're Rage Against The Machine.

JF also throw in a couple of left field covers. The first is Queen's 'Fat Bottomed Girls' where the band sandpaper off the original's polished production and their version comes on like a lecherous cowboy singing a campfire song while the second is 'The Clapping Song' (you know the one, the old Soul classic – "The line broke, the monkey got choked and they all went to heaven in a little row boat") which works much better than it sounds and would be a riot live.

Indeed, that's their strength as this is designed to go down a storm with drunken, revelling regulars in an outback bar, whose skin and attitudes are tougher than leather and if that sounds like a party you want to join then Jackson Firebird are your invitation.
