This is as good a first step for a band of their ilk as I've heard in over twenty years.

Frontiers have very high hopes for young Classic Rockers Inglorious, and rightly so, as the talented quintet have come up with a fresh twist on a Blues Rock sound that has served fans well for the best part of fifty years already. Formed last year by respected Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Uli Jon Roth singer Nathan James, the band are completed by fellow Brits Will Taylor on guitar, Colin Parkinson on bass and drummer Phil Beaver, with Swedish guitarist Andreas "Adde" Eriksson joining a few months ago just before the recording of this album.

Self-produced and recorded virtually live in the studio, 'Inglorious' scores highly in every department, from the writing and performances, to the energy they've captured in the recording. Most have probably heard the opening two songs already, the gritty mid-paced Hard Rocker and first single 'Until I Die' and the pacier, hard hitting Glenn Hughes-vibe of 'Breakaway', but if you think that gives you a handle on what the band are about and what to expect from this album, think again.

As is usual, when revisiting a popular style, influences cannot be avoided be it the stop/start Led Zeppelin-style riff of 'High Flying Gypsy', the Bluesy, early Whitesnake groove of 'Holy Water' or the sassy Aerosmith vibe of 'Girl Got A Gun', but along with aspects of those bands Inglorious add their own melodic choruses and James' inimitable voice. Pouring emotion into the songs like an amalgam of David Coverdale, Ronnie James Dio, Ian Gillan and the aforementioned Hughes, James covers the lower register of the first two and the upper register of latter two, occasionally heading off into parts of the stratosphere barely touched before in this genre.

Song-wise every one is a grower and each has its own identity, from the killer power ballad 'Bleed For You', to the thumping, Eastern-tinged 'Inglorious' and the acoustic-based beauty of 'Wake', each without a hint of cheese. 'You're Mine' is deceptively clever and the stirring 'Unaware' should have been the theme for the new James Bond film. Throw in lots of cool breakdowns, great guitar solos and those little instrumental embellishments that make good songs into great ones and you have an impressive first chapter in the career of a worthy new band.

A team effort from top to bottom, Inglorious are as well-equipped as any to buck the trend of new bands failing to get above a certain success level. It won't happen overnight but this is as good a first step for a band of their ilk as I've heard in over twenty years.
