Delivering very solid, powerful debut album, Nitehawks are the band to be kept on every Metalhead's radar.

Once in a while you come across an album that takes you for a journey back in time, its musical aesthetics unmistakably harkening back to glories of the past – the sort of time machine that would have made 'Back To The Future's Doc Brown proud. 'Vendetta', an album recently released by an Italian band Nitehawks via Skol, is one such invitation to travel a few decades back. From the first track to the ninth, it encapsulates that classic Heavy Metal sound largely infused by the 1980's NWOBHM – with only the slight modern twist given, if any at all.

The 1980s may be long gone now, but – apparently – they've never really ended for this Italian four-piece. This fact becomes obvious the first few seconds into the album, with the opening track 'Into The Wild' assaulting one's ears with powerhouse mixture of dazzling guitar riffs and high-pitched screams. This headlong journey continues with a bit of Iron Maiden-esque panache ('Vendetta', 'Blackout In Paradise'), some NWOBHM resurrection in all its clichéd glory ('Nitehawks', 'Rocketman', 'Looking For Trouble') alongside tunes marked by ridiculously catchy choruses ('Dynamite', 'Suite 95').

Incredibly consequent at making a listener pumping their fist in the air one song after another, Nitehawks give a twist even to the love-themed 'Never Let You Go'. A weepy ballad for over-romanticized teenagers? Forget it. It's all tight rhythm section, blistering solo, massive chorus and high-pitched vocals that are closer to those of Udo Dirkschneider or Rolf Kasparek than the sentimental wail of Bret Michaels. In shortly – it's Nitehawks all along the way, a new but worthy addition to the league of the so-called New Wave Of Traditional Heavy Metal.

Obviously, 'Vendetta' is neither a breakthrough album for Heavy Metal nor a novelty of any sorts. It's also obvious it couldn't have possibly been so – recorded more than four decades after Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin laid the foundations of the genre and three decades after NWOBHM exploded. However, it's a fine throwback to the musical past marked by huge but melodic guitar riffs, furious head-banging, spiked gauntlets and acid washed denim vests.

Having thus stirred some nostalgia as well as delivering very solid, powerful debut album, Nitehawks are the band to be kept on every Metalhead's radar.
