Please check them out, especially if you like bands with dazzling yet melodic musicianship at their core.

Said it before and I'll say it again, I "HATE!" with a passion record company bios. Ninety-nine percent of the time they are so wrong that it makes you wonder if the person writing them has even opened the album and played it. Chaos Frame are a prime example; their bio states that what you're about to hear is an album that mixes elements of Heavy Power Metal and Thrash, with frenetic screaming vocals and wailing guitar solos. No you don't.

I'll admit on a couple of songs there are some Thrashy guitar parts but on the whole what CF have recorded is an album that I think has more in common with the Technical Progressive Metal genre than anything else (a good thing in my book). Also in Dave Brown they have a killer singer with a wonderfully melodic voice that is as far removed from a Thrash vocalists as you can get. It's his strong, melodic delivery that gives CF that badly needed edge in this very over crowded genre.

For proof, check out the opening cut 'Painful Lessons' with its multi-layered harmony vocals, strong keyboard melodies and stunningly complex guitar work and wonder why the word Thrash was ever used. 'Paths To Exile' has that sort of musical intensity that is usually found on releases by bands like Zero Hour or Moonsorrow. The guitars of Andy Xiong and Matt Hodsdon bounce off each other, creating byzantine musical patterns and sounds, whilst never forgetting the need for a melodic balance and never straying into "guitar wank" territory.

'Paper Sun' is a fast paced song with some killer vocals from Brown that are complimented by some dramatic guitar solos. 'Giantkiller' has many facets, fast and slow musical passages, mixed with intense guitar, intricate keyboard, bass and drum passages that are again topped off by Brown's passionate and theatrical vocals.

Finally there's the eight minute 'The World Has Two Faces' to contend with, a song where we find a band at the top of their game. This one track sums up CF and what they are all about beautifully and that is playing technically complex Melodic Progressive Metal that has masses of melody and depth running through it.

Chaos Frame are a new band to me and I can honestly say that they have made an album that covers a lot of my Prog Metal bases. So please check them out, especially if you like bands with dazzling yet melodic musicianship at their core.
