Pure Melodic Rock excellence.

Ah yes, the much maligned "project" album. It's interesting that this arrived in my inbox the same week that Frontiers' President Serafino Perugino released his statement regarding the negativity that surrounds these "super-groups" and their lack of live performances.

I'm in total agreement with Perugino; in this tough business it's difficult even for "proper" bands to be able to perform live, but I would rather have the opportunity to have an excellent Melodic Rock album to listen to and no concerts to promote it than no album at all. Let's not forget, the mighty W.E.T. was originally envisioned solely as a "project", it's only by fate that that amazing Firefest show in 2011 happened. Then there are the other great Frontiers "projects", like First Signal, From The Inside, Sweet & Lynch, Place Vendome, Revolution Saints and, of course, Find Me.

If their debut album 'Wings Of Love' was the culmination of Serafino's quest for the perfect Melodic Rock album, then 'Dark Angel' simply has to be the pluperfect sequel. Once again, the collaboration between Swedish musician, song-writer and producer Daniel Flores (The Murder Of My Sweet) and vocalist Robbie LaBlanc (Blanc Faces) has excelled itself with twelve songs of sheer Melodic Rock brilliance. The guitar crunch of 'Wings...' has been somewhat smoothed over in favour of an even more lush, keyboard-orientated sound but the insane melodies and immense choruses remain as strong as ever.

Yet Find Me is not simply just the Flores and LaBlanc collaboration. They do not have any writing credits, therefore much respect should also be paid to the album's other contributors; guitarist Philip Lindstrand (Strong) delivers the perfect Rocking opener 'Nowhere To Hide', while keyboardist Sören Kronqvist (Sunstorm) weighs in with the moody, mid-tempo pieces 'Bleed In The Rain' and 'Don't Slip Away From Me' (co-written with Thomas Vikström (Stormwind, Candlemass)) and collaborates with Drive She Said's Mark Mangold on the sublimely catchy 'Dark Angel' – a contender for song of the year.

Elsewhere, Alyson Avenue's Niclas Olsson supplies the gorgeous 'Where Do I Go', the punchy 'Another Day' (featuring a vocal excerpt from Flores' TMOMS companion Angelica Rylin) and the immense 'Did You Feel Any Love'. Frontiers' go-to guy Alessandreo Del Vecchio is responsible for the rousing 'Let Love Rule' and the album's sole power-ballad 'Forever' whilst the eighties-tastic 'Midnight Memories' and 'Face To Face' arrives courtesy of Vega's Martin Brothers. The perfect cover of Kenny Loggins' 'I'm Free' is a worthy addition to the original material on offer.

The only complaint I can find is that it's arrived too late in the year to make it into the list of 2015's best albums. Pure Melodic Rock excellence.
