Quite possibly the closest thing the Scandinavian scene has to Motörhead or Nashville Pussy.

The name you choose for your band says a lot about you as individuals, about your hopes and dreams, where you came from and your "outlook" on life. It also tells potential fans a lot about what they can expect when they first spot you in the ever more cloying sea of hopefuls, about what "tribe" you belong to and most importantly if you really align with their "outlook" on life even before they've heard a note. Let's face it, there's not much point calling yourselves Sweaty Bollocks if you're about post ironic political statements and twenty-five minute Prog Rock songs; conversely The Disciples Of Procrastination doesn't say three minute hi energy Punk Rock either.

All of which brings me nicely to Norwegian firebrands The Carburetors. Formed in Oslo just after the turn of the millennium, the band have been kicking out the jams (and generally causing mayhem) throughout Europe for the last decade and a half, and yes, if you still haven't got it we're talking gutsy, sweat soaked, beer drinking, ball bustin', bar room brawling Rawk 'n' Roll here! To date they've issued three full-length studio albums – their last (2008's 'Rock 'N' Roll Forever') was expanded and re-issued a couple of years later – and a clutch of singles.

Quite possibly the closest thing the Scandinavian scene has to Motörhead or Nashville Pussy...all black leather jackets and snarling attitude... their ethos is simple, grab life by the balls and give 'em a damn good squeeze! Ain't particularly pretty to look at that's for sure (nor was it ever intended to be I'll wager), but despite the protracted gap between newbie 'Laughing In The Face Of Death' and the aforementioned '...Forever', it's still very much business as usual for The Carburetors.

All the songs fall into that three to four minute category, rapid-fire Boogie riffs and grizzled vocals staying around just long enough to give you a bloody nose in a fist fight but not long enough to outstay their welcome. Diehard Motörhead fans (that's me then!) will love the acerbic anarchy of tracks like 'The Wolves Are Gonna Howl Tonight', 'Lords Of Thunder' and 'Water Into Wine', so if that's your bag rest assured this does exactly what it says on the tin.

They'd make great drinking buddies without doubt... not sure you'd trust 'em with the virginity of your eldest daughter though!
