Nashville Pussy / Worry Blast - Camden Underworld, London (UK) - 6 April 2016

Considering they are a bit of an AC/DC clone on record, Worry Blast are surprisingly good live. Despite the obvious love affair with AC/DC (the guitarist Allan Claret holds his guitar high like Angus Young and has an Angus-like shuffle and the vocalist Max Petrucci has the tattoo "Let There Be Rock" across his chest), this is good time Rock and Roll with great vocals and guitar. They are pretty tight and the sound is excellent, especially as it's not always "all that" at the Underworld. The AC/DC sound probably translates better live as this was always the kind of music made to be played live and the band's obvious joie de vivre makes them more enjoyable live than recorded. The naughty thought that the singer might be better for AC/DC than Axl Rose did cross our mind more than once, and I bet we're not the only ones to have thought this. Some songs like 'Hit The Gas' can seem a bit pedestrian, as let's face it sometimes AC/DC themselves can be, till they get to the guitar solo when the pure passion of the guitarist comes alive and saves the day. Hey, even the greats wanted to be someone else when they started and we've all now heard the story of where Bruce Dickinson's famous sway and hand waving was inspired. If you don't mind the inevitable reminders of Australian legends, the band are enjoyable, period.

Nashville Pussy are a sight to behold, mainly because they really do not give a fuck, but in a good way! Sounding pretty good and looking like a train wreck, they have that total cool of someone who doesn't care what you think. This is unusual and admirable, especially for ladies, no vanity here, just straightforward down and dirty Rock 'n' Roll! Their implacable ZZ Top looking drummer looks like he would not miss a beat if you set him on fire, such is the level of Southern cool coming from the stage. From the cool Rock 'n' Roll guitar, the rolling around on the floor, the three guitar synchronised jam to the vocalist filling his hat with beer and pouring it pretty much full all over his head, do not expect to get out of a Nashville Pussy gig unscathed – it's part of the fun...

Because of this, the band have a slightly anarchic, slightly "threatening to society" feel feared by God fearing folks everywhere. The vocalist explains in his closest to an attempt to endearment to the crowd (generally referred to as motherfuckers) that Nashville Pussy were kicked out of the UK three hundred years ago and so were born in a shit hole in Kentucky instead but now they are back! These guys are dripping in diesel, their music is good time fun and they are never boring. The guitarist plays her guitar with a bottle for an encore. They are surprisingly tight given all the shenanigans. "We Are Nashville Pussy", the "biggest cajones" award goes to them just when they proudly announce the name of their band. How can this not bring a smile to the face!
