It's amazing how Eldritch can still make their talent shine after such a long discography with results that are so believable and consistent.

Many of you will likely be familiar with Tuscany, Italy, in most part I suspect because of touristic reasons or, in particular, for the food, the wine and the amazing landscapes and artwork. But this region has much more to offer than that. It's always been a place with a strong devotion towards art and (of course) music is no exception, even when we talk about Heavy Metal.

Eldritch has been one of the most prestigious representatives of a now long and rich heritage and it's no surprise they reached their tenth album with this release 'Underlying Issues'. More technical, majestic and intense than ever, Eugene Simone (guitars), Terence Holler (vocals), Raffahell Dridge (drums), Rudj Ginanneschi (guitars) and Alessio Consani (bass) have once again delivered a monolithic example of Progressive/Power Metal and in doing so, they're now closer to perfection than ever.

There's also a kind of melodic approach in some of the songs that also makes this album catchy somehow. 'Danger Zone', 'All And More' or 'The Face I Wear' are some of that fall into that category, though the plot of their arrangements are still some of the boldest, unpredictable and precise you could ever experience in this genre.

There are even traces of Symphonic Metal ('Bringers Of Hate'), but interpreted with brilliant mastery and without the usual stereotypes, along with contemporary Groove Metal solutions that flirt with melodic (almost AOR) choruses ('Piece Of Clarity'). In all this range of styles, there's also space for a Thrash fit of anger ('Slowmotion K Us') but even there, the band manages the matter with absolute class and skilled audacity.

Talking about boldness, 'To The Moon And Back' is absolutely one of the peaks of this album; almost seven minutes intensively spent on the edge of the fantastic vocal effort by singer Holler, who also took care of some dramatic song-writing.

Basically it's amazing how Eldritch can still make their talent shine after such a long discography with results that are so believable and consistent. Too many Italian Metal bands faded into the darkness due to the lack of interest by the Italian music biz, but Eldritch can still keep the flag high.
