He will make a big mark on the live circuit with this collection of songs.

Having enjoyed and reviewed Canadian singer and song-writer Josh Taerk's first album a while back, I was looking forward to this one. I noted the Bruce Springsteen vibe on the largely acoustic numbers on the debut; this is still the case on his new album but the resemblance now stretches to the Rock territory.

Jumping to track five, 'Take A Chance With Me', I am not sure whether it's a shameless homage or Taerk's own style but in terms of the subject matter, energy and musicality, it comes over as a cross between 'Rosalita' and 'Thunder Road'. It really works and it is credit to his genuine heartfelt delivery that it sounds exciting but also valid by today's standards.

E Street band drummer Max Weinberg has already picked out Taerk as one to watch and adding to his patron list is John Oates (Hall & Oates); Oates even sings on the opening title track and 'Wise Man'.

Reading the PR release, Taerk wanted to make an evocative album in tune with 1970's and 1980's Rock music and the artists that have inspired him to play and write music – these include the aforementioned Springsteen, Tom Petty and Neil Young. If you like this type of music, it is fair to say you will enjoy this album.

This is more of a band oriented album rather than the solo-ish first album and there are some catchy standout tracks – 'The Mirror' has a very emotive and strong chorus and 'Waiting For The Flood' is another track that also happens to have a strong Springsteen influence (musically as well as the reference to a "flood").

Josh Taerk has raised the bar further on this second album and armed with his strong Nashville touring band, he will make a big mark on the live circuit with this collection of songs.
