Ten catchy, Sleaze-fuelled tracks that fair motor along with admirable energy and serious sing-a-long-ability.

Here's a curious proposition – album number three by a Hard Rocking Swiss quartet with silly names. Founded in 2006 by drummer, lead vocalist and song-writer Mr. Killjoy, Monster Sound look to be gearing up for a serious assault on the world of Heavy Rock. Recorded and mixed in the U.K. and mastered in the United States, 'Who's Laughing Now?' is the sound of a band looking to spread its wings.

On the face of it, they have a hard job ahead of them. No one in their right mind is going to be drawn to this album by the artwork, which features pictures of the boys, apparently fresh from some Quentin Tarantino-inspired heist, hanging around long enough to have their photos done as the fire they've just started rages behind them. I've actually made it sound better than it looks – the best you can say of the album artwork is that it doesn't have much going for it.

Then there are the lyrical themes that, at times, are hackneyed and clichéd beyond belief. "Swallow my love whole, fire in the hole," sings Mr. Killjoy in 'Whiskey Night Love'. "I've got a dirty mind and I know it," he tells us in 'Dirty Minded' before continuing with "I want a dirty time and I will have it"; that gives you the general idea. And then there are those names; alongside the ubiquitous Killjoy, guitar treats are provided by The Stone, keyboards come courtesy of Dark Snake and bass is played by the relatively normally named Zhayne Watt.

These things would be causes for concern, and might well help to consign Monster Sound to the also-rans pile, were it not for the fact that the music is actually rather good. Ten catchy, Sleaze-fuelled tracks that fair motor along with admirable energy and serious sing-a-long-ability (yes, it seems I now have a dirty mind and know it too). Whatever fun I might poke at his name, Stone has brought a bucketful of cool riffs to the party – check out the title track, 'Wicked' and 'Still Alive' for example – and bangs out some seriously striking solos. Elsewhere 'Nowhere To Hide' and closer 'Paranoid City' demonstrate the band's ability to build more powerful, weighty compositions, with Snake's keyboards used to good effect and Watt's bass solid at the core.

There is swagger, confidence and an almost unbearable arrogance in abundance here – but, to be fair, musically speaking track after track delivers. So, 'Who's Laughing Now?' Not me, honest.
