On the strength of this release, I can see a big, bright future for Mr. Ego.

Mr. Ego are a Brazilian Progressive Metal band from Monte Azul Paulista, Sao Paulo. They were brought to my attention by Alessandro Del Vecchio, who told me that their singer "just has to be heard because he so good"...and you know what, he wasn't wrong.

Not only are ME a band who play some superb, dark, complex and passionate Prog Metal, they also have, in André Anheiser Ferrari (ex Eyes Of Shiva), a singer that could give Russell (God) Allen a run for his money. Therefore, as you might expect, the band's music and the album's overall feel does have a lot of Symphony X references running through it. But the music is delivered with such passion and vitality that you soon forgive them for these few comparisons, instead finding yourself relaxing and just enjoying what ME have created on 'Seven'.

There is that distinct SyX feel to ME's music and the opening tracks 'Fall On Our Knees' and 'Broken Walls' could easily have come off 'The Divine Wings Of Tragedy' or 'Twilight In Olympus' albums, which is a big compliment. They then continue to pour the same intensity and fire into such wonderful songs as '1917', which unsurprisingly is all about WWI, the very melodic 'Injustice', which sees Ferrari showing he can sing in a more subtle "less Metal" way when needed, and the bruising 'Black Gold', where the guitars of Yuri are all caustic riffs one minute, then understated guitar solos the next.

Finally there's the three part 'Silence Of The Lambs' which is spread over twelve minutes and can only be described as the album's tour-de-force. Building slowly from a piano/vocal led intro piece into a full-on, "in your face" guitar/keyboard/bass/drum onslaught that, when combined with the vocals of Ferrari, becomes a truly devastating example of Progressive Metal.

On the strength of this release, I can see a big, bright future for Mr. Ego. They have the musicianship and song-writing skills needed to go far in this overcrowded genre and, in Ferrari, they have singer who will make a lot of people sit up and take notice.
