Vrabevski's Intelligent Music Project is redefining AOR: Adult Orchestrated Rock.

'Touching The Divine' is the third instalment in Dr Milen Vrabevski's Intelligent Music Project and the second to feature an all-star line-up, following last year's 'My Kind O' Lovin'' that I also reviewed (see issue #65). The featured musicians are ex-Asia vocalist John Payne, Toto singer Joseph Williams, Simon Phillips (drums and percussion), Nathan East (bass) and legendary guitarist Tim Pierce. The sheer quality of all of the aforementioned musician's shines throughout '...Divine' and it is clear that they were not just merely hired hands.

Vrabevski is quoted as saying, "This is a super band, which every producer would be happy to work with, and it gave a very good finish to our Intelligent Music Project, in this case – number III. I was enormously fortunate to be the author and producer of the whole project. The idea we want to share with the audience through this album is simple – we must find the divine within ourselves in order to become the successful individual we want to be. We try to show how to do that".

'Opening', an obvious title for a lead off track, blends orchestration similar to Rachmaninov's 'Rhapsody On A Theme Of Paganini'. Payne continues with lead vocals on 'Escape' that is essentially the album's title track. The first single 'Sky' is a Melodic Hard Rocker that sees Williams taking lead vocal duties whilst 'Stay Up' has both Payne and Williams sharing singing duties.

There is further beautiful orchestration within 'A Smile Away' which features recently appointed Nazareth vocalist Carl Sentance on backing vocals; Sentance also takes lead on the Rocker 'Simply Feels Good'. The whole album seamlessly blends ballads like 'We Can', 'My World' and 'Life' with Rockers like 'Coming Soon' and the Asia-like 'Fate' whilst the Williams' sung 'Dream' effortlessly switches between soft ballad and Hard Rock within the song itself. There's even an old-style Rock 'n' Roll number 'Roots' with Williams on vocals. The impressive 'Mind Projection' ends this fantastic album and perfectly sums up all that has gone before; beautiful, layered and well-crafted orchestrated music.
